INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE “SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT OF THE MEKONG SUBREGION”

The Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) is a natural economic area bound together by the Mekong River, covering 2.6 million square kilometers and a combined population of around 326 million. The Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) Economic Cooperation Program, inaugurated in 1992, ushered in a new era of development policy coordination among its members, focused on enhancing physical connectivity to promote shared regional concerns, such as infrastructure, commerce, investment, tourist, environment protection and human resources development, to create a favorable environment for the development of long-term mutually beneficial economic cooperation among Subregion member countries. Despite the significant success in the cooperation, the exploitation, construction, and development activities in the Mekong River region face critical challenges stemming from the significant differences in countries' economic development orientations and strategies. In particular, the impact of technological and climate change and the radical exploitation of water resources in the upstream region have raised severe problems for the sustainable development of countries situated downstream along the Mekong River, including Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Laos. To research and find solutions to problems related to resource exploitation activities in the Mekong River region, the Ho Chi Minh City University of Law coordinates with partners who are large research and training facilities in the Southern region to organize the conference “SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT IN THE MEKONG SUBREGION” with details as follows: • Time: 08g00-16g00, June 12th, 2024. • Venue: A1002 Hall, Ho Chi Minh City University of Law, No. 2 Nguyen Tat Thanh Street, Ward 13, District 4, Ho Chi Minh City. • Important deadlines o Abstract Submission Deadline: February 15th, 2024 via link: https://ilaw.edu.vn/link/reg o Full Paper Submission Deadline: May 10th, 2024.
